Green village Project

The new housing estate is located in Pignone, an Italian
municipality in the province of La Spezia, Liguria. It is close to
the National Park of the Cinque Terre (Riomaggiore, Manarola,
Corniglia, Vernazza, Monterosso) a few miles from the famous
Via dell’Amore, a sheer drop promenade over the sea. Since
2000, Pignone has been recognized as site of interest for
environmental protection by the EU.
In 2009, it was appointed with the Orange Flag by the Italian
Touring Club. The location of the village is also favourable from
the climate point of view: the proximity to the sea offers mild
temperatures and the advantages of a quiet rural environment.
For the lovers of nature and of outdoor activities, a network of
approx. 35 km paths is available for walks, horse riding and
mountain-biking, including connections with the Cinque Terre,
Levanto and Borghetto Vara.
Pignone dates back approximately from the year 1000, as
testified by the Parish of Santa Maria Assunta.
However, traces of the village belonging to the Roman period and
even to the Age of Bronze and Iron have been discovered in a
surrounding hill.

The new estate takes after the characteristics of the ancient
Ligurian hamlet, consisting in side by side housing units made
relying on local materials and techniques. Great attention
to building details makes the housing estate a prestigious
environmetal intervention. The use of ecological materials
with high thermal and insulating coefficient meets with every
condition required by European laws on thermal classification
and energy saving. The area on which the intervention is going
to be made is elevated in comparison to the nearby village and
stream, and is slightly sloping, giving the project a peculiarity
which matches well with the typical Ligurian landscape.
The project is intended to build 15 housing units with different
characteristics and of varying sizes, ranging from the onestorey
to the three-storey house with equipped terrace. Besides
the different sizes of the houses, they are also characterized by
different colours, which creates a harmonious blend of tradition
– the old Ligurian hamlet- and modern – the new housing estate
with high building standard made for all the comforts.
The new hamlet will be surrounded by rich green vegetation.
In fact, the area is 4800 squared metres, but only 600 squared
metres are destined for housing, while 1050 squared metres will
be turned into a large communal equipped area with grass and
trees, the other 1050 squared metres will become private gardens
and, finally, 1650 squared metres will be used for parking stalls,
lined among the green and roofed with a light wooden structure
ready to be enriched by creeping evergreens to harmonize with
the natural environment.
